Lift modernisation in a vibrant, multi-use environment
Dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries, many of the buildings located in what are now elegant and vibrant squares, were originally warehouses storing raw silk, piece goods, textiles, spices and teas. Over time, as development occurred and multiple building refurbishments have been undertaken, many of these historic London squares like Devonshire Square, originally constructed for the famous East India Company, are now thriving multi-use environments.
One of the many lift modernisation projects, successfully completed in 2021, took place at 9 Devonshire Square, a five-storey Grade II listed building that has been extensively refurbished by architects, JRA.
The lift modernisation project required Jackson to modernise a group of three lifts that serve all five floors, including refurbishment of the existing three bottom-drive traction motors and replacement of the old lift controllers with new Thames Valley lift controllers. Away from the motor room, Jackson engineers completed full lift car relines with architect-specified finishes along with new landing and car doors, car operating panels and landing signalisation, all to aesthetically integrate with the building’s colour scheme and style.
