Environment

Today, it is almost impossible not to be aware of how our behaviour and actions impact the environment around us. We do not look away but care, as do our employees who work with us and our customers across the length and breadth of the UK.

Jackson is proud to hold ISO 14001, the internationally recognised standard for Environmental Management Systems and ISO 50001, the internationally recognised standard for Energy Management. This supports our activities and commitment to how we work to minimise our impact on the environment.

Vehicle usage

Like many companies, Jackson is reviewing our vehicle fleet and, where practical, moving towards electric vehicles. This process has started along with the installation of electrical charging points at our offices.

In city centres, where we manage a high number of lifts and escalators, our maintenance engineers undertake site visits on foot. Our city-based engineers are allocated a set walking route and carry small backpacks containing a selection of commonly needed minor spare parts. In cases where we have multiple lifts in one building, we may leave a small stock of commonly needed spare parts in a secure motor room or locker.

In all other cases where possible, our engineers live within the region and area of their work which reduces travel time to site, fuel consumption (CO2 emission) and maximises efficiency. Our engineers’ vans all carry optimised spare parts, specifically picked for the lifts within their rounds. By doing this, we have reduced the number of return-to-warehouse visits to collect parts.

Lift and escalator maintenance, repair, modernisation and installation

Today, when undertaking any project for Jackson internally or for a client, we always look for the most energy-efficient solution. This could include retrofitting LED lights to install a new lift or escalator controllers that have power-saving options and regenerative drives.
