High Rise Lift Modernisation in Ashton-under-Lyne
Jackson is extremely proud of the relationship that our Manchester lift maintenance and modernisation teams have developed with Ashton Pioneer Homes, a not-for-profit community-based Housing Association located in Ashton-under-Lyne, Tameside. Our work is based on competitive tendering and measured against quality performance and has now spanned several years.
Apart from the routine lift maintenance that the Jackson local Tameside engineers provide, we have also been working with Ashton Pioneer Homes on their asset modernisation project that covers some of the association’s seven high-rise blocks that were built during the 1960s and 1970s. The first of these relates to the modernisation of two high-rise passenger lifts at Portland House.
Most recently, we completed lift modernisation projects in both Margaret House and Welbeck House in Ashton-under-Lyne for Ashton Pioneer Homes. The two fully occupied, 13-storey blocks each contain seventy flats, so extra care was needed to ensure disturbance and inconvenience to residents was kept to the very minimum. As a result, we only worked on one lift at a time in each of the blocks.

Each lift modernisation followed the same works programme undertaken at Portland House, Ashton-under-Lyne, that Jackson successfully completed in 2022.
Our local modernisation team implemented the following upgrades:
Returning the lifts to service
After rigorous testing of each lift as we completed their modernisations, we returned them to service to the delight of the residents.

All the modernisation work was undertaken by Jackson engineers who live in the Greater Manchester Region and report to the Jackson offices and administration centre in Manchester.
Throughout the modernisation period, well-known Jackson local engineers who have been looking after these lifts for Ashton Pioneer Homes continued to undertake the scheduled maintenance and inspections needed for each of the lifts that remained in service during the project.
