Friendly, local service… nationwide
Apart from the spectacular coastline of South Devon, the area boasts an array of historic market towns and one of England’s best-known National Parks, Dartmoor.
As with other areas of the West Country, South Devon is one of the UK’s tourist hotspots. With its mild climate, ‘English Riviera’ resorts, visitor attractions, and stunning National Landscape (formerly known as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty – AONB), it has everything to offer visitors.
An example of the commercial value of tourism to the area is Torbay, South Devon’s ‘English Riviera’, which attracts approximately 4.5 million visitors annually and generates £435 million for the local economy. Much of this money is spent at tourist attractions, restaurants, and hotels, all of which require disability access, often in the form of a platform lift or a traditional lift. In both cases, routine maintenance is always required.
Aside from its incredibly active tourist industry, South Devon is also known for its agriculture and fishing industries. In the commercial world, and less known to the public, are two of the area’s largest employers: Norton Group Holdings Ltd, with 13,492 employees, and Devonport Royal Dockyard Ltd, with 6,407. Both businesses are based in Plymouth.
Across the UK, Jackson maintains a policy of directly employing local, qualified lift engineers to undertake routine maintenance work. This policy of employing locally based engineers helps Jackson to provide customers with continuity and assists us in developing long-term relationships. They all have dedicated lift maintenance routes, which, combined with their local knowledge of traffic conditions (helpful during holiday periods), reduce travel time and help us to respond more quickly to service calls. As our maintenance engineers generally live locally, they often become involved in community activities, embracing local sports and charitable events.

All Jackson maintenance engineers receive their daily work schedules via their company-provided tablets. At the end of each maintenance visit, your Jackson engineer will provide an update on the outcome, including any issues identified that may need further attention. If your site contact is unavailable, our administration team will ensure you are informed of any necessary follow-up actions.
