Housing Association

Project details:

  • Hydraulic Lift Modernisation
  • 2-Storey, 30-Apartment Complex
  • New Equipment

Across the country, Jackson maintain, repair and modernise existing lifts installed in properties managed and owned by a wide range of housing associations and providers, including some of the UK’s largest in the social housing and care sectors.

One of our customers in this sector, a housing provider with a growing portfolio of approximately 30,000 homes in the West Midlands had a requirement to modernise several hydraulic lifts situated in managed retirement/care homes.

The lift modernisations were all needed to improve equipment reliability and energy efficiency. As with other projects of this type, Jackson submitted a budget estimate with recommendations in a tender format for consideration.

Following on from our submission, the Jackson Lichfield modernisation team were awarded the contract for hydraulic modernisation projects at this Housing Association. Our local engineers, operating from our facilities in Lichfield, have undertaken the low-rise hydraulic lift modernisations for the Housing Association. One of these was at a 2-storey, 30-apartment care complex in Coventry.

The modernisation included a new hydraulic valve and lift control system. Additionally, we also installed new landing and car signalisation, shaft wiring and lift positioning equipment (limits). One of the key benefits for residents has been better floor levelling, whilst at the same time, achieving our customer’s secondary objective of improved energy efficiency.

For each modernisation, our local site engineers had daily contact with each centre’s staff and many of the residents who kept a socially-distanced watch on our progress. During the time when the lifts were removed from service for the works to be undertaken, stair lifts were temporarily installed to ensure residents with limited mobility could still easily and safely access the first floors.
