Cloud-first strategy

Project details:

  • GSM Modules

Working with one of our existing customers in the Education sector, engineers operating from our Newcastle offices have recently assisted Sunderland University with their cloud-first programme, moving away from analogue to online cloud services. With regards to the multiple lifts spanning the University’s UK campuses, Jackson have installed compact EN81-28 compliant GSM modules fitted with micro SIM cards with 4G capacity for each of the campuses’ lifts.

The new modules are designed to work with existing in-car emergency two-way voice calling and provide voice calling over the 4G network that reverts to the 2G or 3G services if needed.

One of the requests from the University was to upgrade with a product that would easily integrate with existing lift controllers and also be suitable for future upgrades to non-OEM lift control systems, should they be required.

Apart from the move to cloud-based emergency two-way voice calling to improve safety monitoring, the University also have been moving their student information system to a cloud service.
