The Marks & Spencer department store in Culverhouse Cross (Welsh: Croes Cwrlwys) is situated just 4½ miles west from the centre of Cardiff, at one of the area’s four large retail parks.
Recently, the store has undergone a modernisation programme which included a significant upgrade, making it the first store in Wales to be selected for the remodelling and enlargement of the Foodhall. The store was also the first in Wales to open an in-store M&S Opticians service.
As part of the store modernisation, M&S decided to update and modernise the two front-of-house passenger lifts and approached Jackson to tender for the lift modernisation work. Our Sales Engineers, operating from the Jackson offices in Cardiff, undertook the lift surveys to the existing status of the equipment with reference to M&S’s bespoke requirements, as detailed by their Lift Consultants.
After submitting our competitive tender, our Cardiff team were awarded the contract for the modernisation of the two passenger lifts installed at the two-storey Culverhouse Cross department store. The contract award related to a full modernisation of the two, top-drive passenger lifts which operated as a duplex pair. This included new lift controllers, safety equipment, landing entrances and architraves.
Jackson local engineers undertook the modernisation work, keeping one of the lifts in service to ensure easy floor-to-floor access for the store’s customers. As we finished each lift, our engineers undertook the necessary safety and quality testing requirements before each lift was returned to service.
