Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (DDA)

Since October 2004, building owners need to comply with the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (DDA). The following extract from BS5655 Part 6 2002 – Annex H (Informative), outlines the basics that need to be considered:

The Disability Discrimination Act 1995 Act came into force on 2nd December 1996 when it became unlawful for service providers to treat disabled people less favourably. From 1 October 1999, service providers have had to make "reasonable adjustments" and from 1 October 2004, service providers have to make "reasonable adjustments" to the physical barriers to access in all buildings.
